Picking out Paint

My husband has been wanting to paint the room that will become the nursery since about Week 5. Finally last night I agreed to go with him to look at paint colors.

I am all over the map with colors. Since I am leaning towards bright accessories with my Kokka Pigs and all, I am leaning towards a softer wall color. Originally we had leaned towards the tans. BORING. A lot of our house is tan. I will be the first to admit that some of my favorite nurseries have tan as a wall color:

But since tan is everywhere in our house, we decided to jazz it up a bit for the nursery. While staring at the paint wall for a while, my husband said, "Maybe we should just find out what we are having." Oh boy. I unleashed my "you can have a gender neutral nursery" tirade on him. Or maybe just a few sentences of it since he quickly recanted the statement.

Then we moved towards the blue-greys. At first, the hubs was doubtful about this color section. "What if we have a girl?". I calmly (I think) pointed out that we could still have a girly room that had blue-grey paint. I don't know if he bought it. We bought a sample and painted a few spots on the walls. The problem is that the existing room color is VERY blue so any paint next to it looks really blue. Here is my collection of rooms (nursery and non) with bluish/grey walls.

My new strategy is to email pictures of nurserys that I like to my husband. While we generally are on the same page, I am sort of worried that if left up to him, we would end up with a pastel green nursery full of duck and lamb puffy wall hangings. Again - this is fine for some people, it is just not my preference. I do have hope since he liked the Kokka Pigs though.

It's a good thing we still have 25.5 weeks. It may take us that long to pick out a paint color!

  1. These look like they could be from Ohdeedoh's nursery tours? If not, I totally recommend spending hours scrolling through their nursery tours. http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/home-tours

I am in love with every nursery and only wish we had as cool of a space. Plus, the kids all seem to have wicked neat names. It's like a "twofor" (30 rock anyone?) you get nursery and names! And all for free.
